"Music has charms to soothe a savage breast." It can also set the tone for play. Hard and fast, slow and gentle, smooth or rough. It all has its place in the scene.
When I play, I usually make sure there is a variety of music that I like playing in the background. I prefer it to be something to drift to when I want to rather than a part of the festivities. But everyone has preferences, and those vary from mood to mood.
